Sweden’s reaction to losing Eurovision at last minute is the Song Contest’s greatest meme.

But it seems like John Lundvik missed that memo. Sweden’s Eurovision Song Contest entry’s face dropped faster than the UK did down the leaderboard (sorry, Michael Rice, we love you) when he realised he hadn’t won the 2019 final – and it was truly priceless. John found himself at the top of the leaderboard halfway through the voting in Tel Aviv as the national juries gave him 239 points, with 10 countries awarding his song Too Late For Love the coveted 12 points. So he was understandably already tasting the praise and top shelf champagne as the final moved into the second half of voting – a very tense process when acts from the bottom of the leaderboard up are given their public votes, which can totally change the results.  Eventually, it all came down to The Netherlands’ Duncan Laurence – who received 261 points from the jury – and John, with Lundvik smiling away as he imagined himself getting the 254 points needed to be crowned champion. Only for Bar Refaeli and Erez Tal to announce that he actually got 93 points. Cue Duncan winning, John’s face dropping, and social media having a field day.
